Bill Hughes sent me
this link from the Desiring God Blog as a follow-up to last week's message on worshiping God in our work. It's a helpful summary. Here are two thoughtful "both/and" points the writer made (I made the change to all caps on the AND). I hope they encourage you to go read the whole thing (it's not long).
7. Plan ahead AND sincerely preface future tasks with "if God wills."
Prepare your work outside; get everything ready for yourself in the field, and after that build your house (Proverbs 24:27).
Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit"— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that" (James 4:13-15)
...
9. Work as unto the Lord AND as unto men.
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ (Colossians 3:23-24).
Servants, be subject to your masters with all respect, not only to the good and gentle but also to the unjust (1 Peter 2:18).
